Solar Basics
Modern solar electric systems, also known as photovoltaic (PV) systems, are very simple and reliable; they consist of four main components. You have the PV Panels and their mounting brackets. The panels generate DC current from light. DC current is the same as what a battery produces. Wires to the inverter carry this current. The inverter then converts the DC current into AC current. AC current is what your house uses. The AC current passes through a PV Disconnect switch that allows the electric company to disconnect the panels from your home. The disconnect switch then feeds the power to your electric panel, the power meter and to your home.
